Collect & GatherCollect – to get from someone; to gather together; to gather things as a hobby
- I need to collect money from everyone for the party.
- The landlord needs to collect the rent every month.
- They are collecting money for the wedding. They still need some more money.
- The school is going to collect food from people who need it.
- I collect toys. I have a huge collection of toys in my house.
Note: Collect is usually not used for people
Gather – to accumulate over time; to accumulate a little at a time
- We are going to meet up, so we can gather different ideas.
- We are going to gather berries, so we can make a pie.
- We need to gather in sports hall for a meeting tonight.
- The team always gathers in the coffee shop near the field after the game.
- We need to gather all the leaves that fell, so we can rake them up.
