Hope – is used when something is possible

  • I hope to pass my English exam.
  • We hope you come to visit us next year.
  • My sister hopes to get a good job.
  • I hope it does not rain on Sunday.
  • My father hopes to move to a bigger house soon.

Wish – is used when something is not possible or not likely

  • I wish I was younger.
  • We wish that we win the lottery.
  • I wish that I could visit you, but I do not have any money.
  • I wish that I was not sick. I am feeling so horrible.
  • My father always wishes that he had more money.
